Many of you may already know how delicious the Pioneer Woman’s apple pies are. I first discovered this recipe on her website years ago, and I’ve been hooked since the very first bite. If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the perfect time! You won’t regret it. While the original recipe calls for Mountain Dew, I’ve found that Sierra Mist, 7-UP, or Sprite work just as well. For my personal health reasons, I’m using a coffee substitute.
Ingredients:
- 1 large apple (I used Fuji, but any apple will do; tart varieties are best)
- 1 box of Pillsbury Crescent dough
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup (6 ounces) 7-Up or a similar soda (about half a can)
How to Make Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings:
1. Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
2. Prepare the Apples:
Cut the apple into 8-10 wedges and peel the slices, setting the peels aside.
3. Roll the Dumplings:
Separate the crescent dough into triangles. Take each apple slice and wrap it in a piece of crescent roll dough, starting from the wide end. Pinch the edges to seal the dough around the apple slice. (For best results, dry the apple slices before wrapping them.)
4. Make the Cinnamon Mixture:
In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Add the sugar and cinnamon, heating and whisking until well combined and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Assemble and Bake:
Pour the cinnamon mixture over the wrapped apple dumplings in the baking dish. Then, pour the soda over the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown.
Enjoy your delicious apple dumplings!
